Sunday, 21st September, was a huge day for Le Chéile AC with athletes competing in three different events – the Dublin Half Marathon, the Berlin Marathon, and the historic Griffith Avenue Mile.

Dublin Half Marathon

A large group of Le Chéile athletes took to the Phoenix Park for the Dublin Half Marathon, with conditions proving excellent for fast times. There were several superb performances and a number of personal bests (PBs):

  • Dylan Redmond — 01:24:07 (PB) 🎉
  • Cathal Brennan — 01:24:25 (PB) 🎉
  • Eoghan Fleming — 01:28:08 (PB) 🎉
  • David Breslin — 01:29:14
  • Oisín Neary O’Rourke — 01:29:15
  • Donnie Neylon — 01:29:48
  • Thomas Lundy — 01:37:15
  • Aisling O’Toole — 01:41:06
  • Trish Padden — 01:43:02 (PB) 🎉
  • Sharon Neylon — 01:44:26
  • Aidan Sherry — 02:52:53
Well done to everyone – brilliant running and great representation for the club.

Berlin Marathon

Over in Germany, Le Chéile was represented at one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors.

  • Sinead Kane (Visually Impaired), guided by our very own John O’Regan (club coach & Irish ultra running legend), ran a superb 03:38:44 in 27°C heat. A phenomenal achievement that underlines Sinead’s determination and resilience.
Griffith Avenue Mile

The Griffith Avenue Mile is part of Irish athletics folklore. The once-off 1983 edition saw South African-born American Sydney Maree, who had set a world mile record earlier that year, storm down Griffith Avenue in 3:49, chased by two of Ireland’s all-time greats – Eamonn Coghlan and Ray Flynn. Revived in 2019, the race continues to attract top talent.

Today, three Le Chéile athletes proudly lined up in this famous event:

  • Andrew Hart — 00:04:46
  • Kevin Gough — 00:05:18
  • Brian McGrath — 00:06:08 (M70–74 Category Winner, new course record 🎉)
At just four months shy of his 73rd birthday, Brian McGrath claimed the Men’s 70–74 title for the third year in a row, smashing the category course record by 16 seconds.

Summary

From the Phoenix Park to Berlin to Griffith Avenue, today showcased the strength and spirit of Le Chéile AC – with PBs, major marathon achievements, and even a course record. Congratulations to everyone who raced!
